Credit for the cover goes to Russel (John Griffiths). He found the rhino image, did the work with the British Museum to get permission for its use and then did a wonderful design job.

Has anyone else noticed Russel's canny publicity coup with the cover art? In today's Sunday Times, in the New Review section there's a great long article about Neil MacGregor's new radio series in which he takes one hundred artefacts from the British Museum (of which he is the director) that in his view represent the story of civilisation/ascent of man. One of those objects is the Whittaker Prize Anthology. Well, sort of. It's actually Durer's woodcut of the rhinoceros. Wink
