Just thought I would introduce myself.

I'm from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, having lived in Eastern Pennsylvania for 96.4% of my life. However, I'm halfway to convinced it's the other 3.6 percent that has impacted me most as a person and as a writer.

I just finished my second book and have 100 pages of a third, a murder mystery called RACE CARD, about a small community that is torn apart when a peaceful activist for racial tolerance is murdered.

The second book, THE SHAKER PROPOSAL, a romantic comedy about a professional woman who is shaken down to her boyshorts when she visits Shaker Village in the Granite State and gets a glimpse of her life mired in a maiden state.

My first book was like learning to play the violin in public. Some events in my life convicted me to write a book or perhaps taught me how not to write a book. Then I decided to tackle a shorter medium, racking up as many publishing credits as a I could writing short fiction and essays.

I have another YA novel half finished (a NaNoWriMo special) and ideas for two more books. Alas, I work full time as director of marketing for a private college in Pennsylvania, so I write in the early morning hours and after dinner (as I am now) and even started writing on my lunch hour (that's why I outlined RACE CARD--don't have to think about what comes next).

One of my immediate professional goals is to win another first place at some contest. I will accept the Whittaker Prize if offered. Wink

I look forward to getting to know some of you better.

Gale

Gale, that is a marvelous intro, and it's great to find out about you!

We do have a few Nanowrimo participants in here too, but I'll let them introduce themselves.

And our maestro of the novel section will be a bit blown away once he's sorted a few things at home. The wobblydickle is your quintessential zany englishman, splendid fellow.

But then, that could well describe a few on here ..

Very Happy

Anyway, as I said, thanks Gale for such a great intro!

Hello Gale, an impressive introduction if I may say so!

I'm one of the NaNoWriMo participants. My 2007 effort is almost ready for sending somewhere, but I've hit a lull in the editing of the last few chapters. I'll probably get back to it after the end of the Whittaker, it's the closest I've managed to having a novel ready for submission.

After the Whittaker? What am I saying, no chance, NaNo 2008 will be waiting for me!

Hi Gale (Gem?)

I was a Martian for a while.

Shocked

(Mars, Pittsburgh that is - for those who assume I've lost it completely these days)

Hello! I love the plot for your latest book particularly. Fantastic. So what about that small percentage spent somewhere else that had such an impact... More please?

Thanks so much for your kind greeting. I have no idea where to find the comments on my entry. Can you point me in the right direction?

Sorry Gem, I have no domesticity with all these buttons- Maybe Delph_Ambi can come to the rescue- she's got me out of a fix or two in the past!

Gem, I think Eva meant that she'd just read your comment in the Chat thread about Round One of The Whittaker Prize comp:

Hi, Snow White. Can I call you Snow?

What about that small percentage spent elsewhere? Well, I grew up on a farm, had a wonderful childhood, clearly lower-middle class, but for some reason, my mother's upbringing, we had upper middle class worldview. So I went to New York City when I was eighteen and spent summers in other parts of the country.

I think I was profoundly affected by living in NYC pre-Guiliani's kick all the bag people out of the city days.

I am more cynical, worldly yet wistful, restless, sophisticated, and far less confident than that happy kid on the big farm because of it, which all comes out in my stories.

Good thing, too. Otherwise I might not be writing anything--just too bucolic an existence for the most part to be convicted to write about anything.

Hope that explains it a bit.

Thanks for asking.

Gale
