Here's one of the reasons why writers should always be careful about where they send their work:

* LINK REMOVED DUE TO DETECTED VIRUS THREAT *

Always make sure you check out who's behind a call for submissions. If you can't figure out who they are, ask around and don't send anything until you get a satisfactory answer.

Thanks Donna.

But I am never able to open any http://tinyurl.com - as my security system (Zonealarm) warns me of spying activity there and cancels any Firefox attempt:

Do you have the full address, please? Thanks!

AR.

PS I have found this on the ZoneAlarm forum:

TinyURL is known to actually send the user to the wrong site or link. These bad redirects have been known to be bad or malware sites and even phish sites. TinyURL is not perfect.

The issue is that linking sites will be changing every day or more time per day as soon as they are black listed. While Tinyurl will be always valid.

This is why ZA is most probably black listing tinyurl. TinyURL company, if reputable and serious, should check and ban links containing malware so to ensure that its service is not misused (like other companies, you mentioned, do on a regularly bases)

If you wish to use TinyURL and the ZA, then disable the spy site blocker ( but I would not recommend this to be done in the ZA for most users).

Just for you, AR:

* LINK REMOVED DUE TO VIRUS THREAT DETECTED *

The reason I use tinyurl is to prevent the forum threads from expanding to a width that's bigger than most people's computer screens. Your caution is understood, AR, but I ALWAYS check to ensure that the tinyurl link is for correct the site.

Donna, you can easily get round the problem by using BBCode.

Here's what you type to turn 'article' into the link, as above (but without the gaps): Here's the [ url = http: // www . REAL ADDRESS REMOVED DUE TO DETECTED VIRUS THREAT ] article [ / url ]

That's nifty, DA. I always wondered how that was done.

Thank you, Donna.

Yes, that is an excellent warning to us all: much appreciated. Thanks for the full-url posting.

Thanks DA - yes that is an excellent way.

I am sure tinyurl is an excellent concerns, too - just ZA has security concerns. And I, having had major PC virus problems, I am not prepared to circumvent their security measures.

Apropos the pot itself:

We can all condemn these people but what we really must do is to be aware.

AR.

I was stupid enough to click on that link.

Now I am scanning my computer for viruses. I think something was wrong with that link.

I hope I didn't catch a virus from it. Why did you post it?

Maybe you should take it down.

Thanks for pointing this out, Q. As you can see, I've removed all links to the previously mentioned site.

I hope your PC is okay. When this topic was started, the site didn't appear to be a virus threat. Apologies.

Looks like my computer is okay so far. It's run through the "program files" and has turned up nothing. What was the link before it got redirected?

The link pointed to a chat thread where hackers were discussing how to steal writers' work.
