As anyone who knows me will testify, I have been promoting my business, Footprints Nursery on Facebook & Twitter and various other portals. We have a number of current initiatives to raise our profile and expand our business.
This is one of them -

Do you write short stories or poetry for children?

If so, we would love to hear from you. We are currently accepting short stories up to 1,000 words and poems of up to 20 lines for our forthcoming title -
FOOTPRINTS CHILDREN’S STORIES.

To promote our children’s learning and to encourage a love of books, we would like stories of all different lengths for inclusion in our book. Illustrations are also welcome, as are submissions for the front cover design.

We aim to have the book published for Christmas and with over eighty children on our register, we hope it will be purchased by our families to continue the theme from nursery to home.

If you have something that might appeal to children aged 2 – 8yrs please send it either by post to the address below or by email to
effiemerryl@btinternet.com.

All entries to be submitted by 1st September 2009

All accepted stories/poems will earn the author a small fee. We hope to promote this book to other nurseries and within local outlets.

Just to clarify - the purpose of this is

- to help raise literacy levels

- to promote our nursery in a positive way with OFSTED (we will get ticks in boxes for this!)

- to give the children something great to listen to/read

- to raise funds for the nursery

- to help writers get published

- not to exploit writers by expecting them to provide stories to us free of charge for our own needs

- to compile an anthology of great writers/illustrators that we will promote within the childcare sector

Any questions, please ask! Looking forward to your submissions and your help. Smile

I'd be interested in providing an illustration, Effie. Let me know if there's something specific you want illustrated, or if something fairly generic like a kitten or puppy would be okay.

That's great Delph, thanks.
I'll come back to you - one idea I had, given that our name is footprints, is having a path of different animals pawprints across the bottom of each page in an up and down pattern - but given I can't draw ... can you suggest anything?

You don't need to be able to draw to do footprints. If you look at these, for example, you'll see they're just a blob with some small blobs. You could draw something similar I'm sure. I bet you can get animal foot print rubber stamps. Or even carve your own using a potato.

Sounds an excellent idea, Effie, anything that encourages tiddlywinks to read and enjoy words gets my vote. I'm sending you a little something that can be read with young kiddies and they can repeat some of the 'laughs'! Laughing

Nearly done, Effie ... I'll have something for it! Been at it all day.

I came home from work today and found our dining room covered with pages and pages of paintings. And then Doug let me read the story. It's a good one!
