From time to time, I read a blog by a guy called Diamond Geezer http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.com/. To those not au fait with London, a lot of it won't mean much, but the other day, he wrote a piece on deadlines. It's not particularly inspirational, but it helps me to know there are others out there like me.

We all seem to have the same problem. I wonder if there's anyone out there who has a measured, disciplined approach to work? The deadline for the article I'm writing at the moment is Monday March 16th. I reckon I'll have done all the interviews and pulled together the research material by tomorrow night.

Even if I take the weekend off I could have the thing finished by next Monday night, easily. Will I? Will I, bollocks. It'll be the morning of Monday 16th, without a doubt.

There's one practicality, though. The earlier I submit the article, the more likely it is that my editor will ask me to edit it myself, or even spend time finding pictures to accompany it. (For no more money...) If I hit the deadline by the skin of my teeth he'll have to get one of his subs to do it, and I can get on with something else. (You live and learn.)

In the mean time here I am, wasting time...

Sad

If I don't have deadlines/cut off dates I don't write. Simple. Rolling Eyes

I seem to spend my life in a constant state of almost late.

But thats good time management isn't it? Wink
