Wow, Cathy, this was spectacular ! Took awhile to carve out time to sit down and enjoy this; read it online and your story falls on page 43, so am about halfway through the whole thing, and it is so well done! Even the intro kicks you in places you wish it wouldn't, but does, and rightly so.

Canada Reads just finished a competition last week for "one book to open your eyes" and of the five finalists, I was so pleased to see one called PRECIOUS CARGO make such a huge impression during the debates. Lots of people felt that since it dealt with serious issues surrounding people with disabilities with a sense of humour, that it didn't have the impact the other books did; the weight of war, of torture, displacement, dystopian settings, of indiginous or immigrant survival stories. The guy defending the book was a storm chaser by trade, and his tenacity was contagious! I ordered the book before learning the winner, but had also ordered the winning book called "Forgiveness". The 3rd book I ordered made the long list but not the short, about Canada's first female Infantry officer. It was called "Out Standing in the Field". I am looking forward to reading all three this summer.

Point being, this collection of short stories has had the same impact on me. Thank you for that! xox

"She’ll feel shame, then guilt at the shame, then horror at the guilt for the shame." ... (ouch)

Thank you so much, Francine. That means a lot.
